WEEKLY TEAM-PICK. TECH TRENDS THIS YEAR

The most interesting tech trends of 2018 selected by FPT HI GIO CLOUD team.

1. IoT becomes BIoT

The underpinnings of cryptocurrency — a distributed leger system called the blockchain — has a real place in the future of technology. The blockchain is the decentralized heart of cryptocurrency, and is a distributed ledger of records which allow for the verification of records without the need for a middleman. While its primary use in 2017 and before was to verify cryptocurrency transactions, developers are realizing it has uses outside of finance. Transaction records, or “blocks” are cryptographically protected and then distributed to all participants.

2. Multi-cloud architecture

Cloud startups and other agile companies will continue the pre-2018 cloud trends to migrate more workloads to virtual environments.

This multi-cloud architecture trend will only become more predominate as 2018 wears on. The reasons not only have to do with money and development but also security and backup. Remember that saying about putting all your eggs in one basket?...

3. The fintech renaissance

Automation will become a way of life for consumers. So many of our financial decisions or actions are one-offs: paying a bill, making an investment, transferring funds. In 2018 and over the next few years, we’re going to see a big trend moving towards automated financial decisions and actions. From bill autopay to automated savings to better overdraft protection tools, we’re going to see a lot of apps dedicated to helping people live a more automated financial life.

4. Augmented reality goes mainstream

Over the next few years, we will see significant adoption of AR technology by brands and retailers as a way to engage consumers and deliver a more compelling brand experience. AR will bridge the gap between the online and offline worlds. In many ways, AR can serve as the cornerstone for tying the digital and physical brand experiences together.

5. The era of non-touch

The user interface is key to our experiences with our tech gadgets. However most of these gadgets rely on some kind of physical interaction in order to work. This will change in 2018, combined with other tech trends that will play a large part in what we’re talking about, the touchless interface will move us far beyond the tap and swipe.
